Plant Wisdom is a medicinal herb garden based in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island.
We offer a variety of workshops on medicinal plants and herbal medicine making:

If you would like to book a herbal workshop specially prepared for your own group
that can be arranged, or if you are curious about your own space
you can schedule time for a plant medicine session in your garden,
where we can identify the plants and learn about the medicinal applications
for the herbs we find there.

Cottonwood Buds - Tree Medicine
6 to 12 Years

Winter's balm, first medicine and water keeper are other names of the Cottonwood. In Celtic mythology, it was known as the whispering tree as its quivering leaves were believed to be a form of inspiration, poetry and communication to the ancestors. This is the time of year the windstorms shake down its high limbs so the buds can be gathered and turned into a heling balm for sore muscles, joints and respiratory issues.

Cottonwood - Winter's Balm
February 5th 11am-1pm FULL
Join us for an adventure into the world of tree remedies. Winter's Balm is another name for the Cottonwood tree. It's Latin name "Populus" means the peoples' tree. This is the time of year the windstorms shake down its high limbs so the buds can be gathered and turned into a healing balm for sore muscles/joints and respiratory issues. Wrap up warm and join us at the Beaufort Food Forest to make your own home made remedy.

Herbal Spring Tonics
March 21st 1:30-3:30pm FULL
Give yourself a spring time boost by learning about the herbs that increase your energy and vitality and help with adapting to seasonal and life changes. Delicious herbal tea and tonic tasting is included!

Nature's First Aid Kit
Adults & Children
Sunday April 9th: 6 to 12 Years 10am-12pm
Sunday April 9th: Adults 1pm-3pm
We never know when an emergency situation will occur. Be prepared by learning how a few common garden plants can be worked with to make simple and effective first aid preparations. We will focus on three key first aid herbs and some basic components of our herbal first aid kits, including tinctures, salves and dried plants. Please bring two 4oz jelly jars, clippers, a pairing knife and small cutting board and a few small bags for harvesting

Herbal Workshop for Kids 6 to 12 years
April 17th 1 - 3pm FULL
Join us for an adventure into the world of plants, connect with our healing friends both in the garden and growing wild, learn about what they are, how to work with them and how to apply them in everyday life. We will work together as a group to make a delicious treat and craft while also drawing, journaling and reflecting with the plants.
